Finished Florida Wood Stork

Ok. So here is the completed painting. After leaving it alone for a while, I decided to blur out the background a bit to make the bird 'pop' a little better and to bring it really into the forefront of the painting. I like it a lot and now am thinking of doing something similar (bird oriented) but a bit smaller.

Blogging & Painting

Ok so I have this blog which I rant and comment on my work and new things I find. I truly wish I was a better writer. I am not very talented at expressing myself in writing and I suppose it's not a animated as some of the other blogs I read which really entertain me. This feels like I'm talking to myself (self? are you listening to me??) which feels sorta funny cause I'm not the "talking to myself" sorta person but anyway.... Here is the latest of my wildlife paintings. I began this yesterday and as you can see, it is not completed.

I have to travel today to West Palm Beach to visit with my mom and sister for a week, so I suppose storkie will need to wait until I return. Gee that's a long time...maybe I'll take my painting with me and complete it there!

I am working with better lighting in my paintings to give them a better 'pop'. As always, your comments are always appreciated. Stay tooned for the completed bird!

DAILY PAINTING

I recently discovered a new site called The Daily Painters Gallery. It really has some great artwork on it and of course all of it is for sale. Please stop by and visit it by clicking the scrolling link to the left.

Over to the right is my very first collage piece. I recently attended a weekend workshop with a very talented local collage artist by the name of ELIZABETH ST. HILAIRE NELSON. Her instructions were wonderful and she is considered a 'paper painter'. Her works are more like portraits and very realistic which is, in my humble opinion, not usually the style of collage paintings but hers are extraordinary. Anyway, this is the piece I walked away with after a 3 day lesson on painting paper, selecting a good subjectmatter and preparing your surface. Comments?

I just read the most amazing book for independent artists!

For all you artists out there that would like to give self-promotion another try; read this book! Its called I'D RATHER BE IN THE STUDIO by Alyson B. Stanfield. I spent the last three days taking time out from painting to read this and as I read I retweaked my website, my blog, and tried to give myself more of a presence of the internet. I need to work on networking (don't we all). I bought the book online at my favorite book store http://www.amazon.com/Id-Rather-Studio-Alyson-Stanfield/dp/0974272582/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1274826561&sr=8-1

Anyway, I thought I would share it.

Above is my latest work. I am trying to stick to a theme to develop a series. It's hard for me. I have trouble staying focused on one subject matter but I am going to try to produce at least seven along the gardening friends theme. Your comments good, bad or indifferent are always appreciated.

Mixed Media Workshop

Ok. Well I was not going to even post this project but when my hubby saw it he thought is was sooo "bad-ass". This is a the result of a workshop I took on "painting with paper". The artist was extremely talented in her craft but clearly I have not acquired the skill very well. The stork is made of strips of papers in all different colors to simulate paint. So he does not look painted but it was lots of fun ripping paper and painting paper prior to gluing all of it on. I am thinking of painting is guy in acrylics.

Painting A Day

I am starting a new series of painting and the theme will be insects. This is the first. What do you think? I is the first time I am using retardants and although it was tough going at first, I really like the 'finished' effect it lets you achieve. The painting needs a little more tweaking but I thought I would post it since it was completed in a day.

New Painting; Same Theme

I am working on a different version of the last larger painting. This one is only 9 x 12 so the development came much quicker. It's on the right. Only problem is when I photographed it, I found I was not happy with the woman's leg and/or shadows so I am going to rework it. Need to travel to West Palm Beach this weekend so I supposed I will tweak next week when I return.

Part III Redeveloping a Painting

Ok. So yesterday I spent the day tweaking my painting and this is my final product. I added some more words, a wave washing over the can with flowers. I also added some shadowing to the foliage that was hanging over the exterior of the basket. I added some additional highlights to the edges of the raft and to the petals that were drifting out to sea. What do you think?

Part II Redeveloping a Painting

March 8, 2010
I don't know WHY it takes me so very long to focus and get back to a painting.
Anyway, I am back and I have made a few more revisions. It seems as much as I would like be be 'realistic' in my paintings, I move into the folk-art, primitive area. -gotta work harder on that.

Anyway, I have added some words, "still alive but I'm barely breathing"..love that song... and still working on the flowers. To the right is what I have so far.

I made a distant island where my girl will drift in pain and sadness...aah 1st love. How bitter-sweet it is. -Glad that stage of life has past. It was no fun and I feel for my girlie.

I have also worked on the drifting girl and given her a little more definition but would like to add the 'shadow' or suggestion of body at the bottom...something like a boy watching her drift away.

I still see the shadow of what was there on the bottom..it's part of a body or arm. That also needs to go.

Let's see what develops.

Redeveloping a Painting

2010 Wow. I cant even believe it. Well for this years first post I have decided to post an ongoing work. Last year I had begun a painting...a dreamscape and in the middle of the project I *lost* my inspiration and this painting just sat staring at me on my easel for quite some time...it was really starting to bother me cause this sort of thing has really never happened to me before...but then Valentines came around and of course there is always 'love' drama and I seem to become artistically fueled by lots of emotion..

My daughter and her boyfriend had gotten into a fight. -their 1st real one and of course he gave her flowers...but this did not *fix* matters between them. the flowers sat and sat until it was time to toss the buggers... as I was tossing them I got a wonderful idea for my painting. So here, to your right, you see the start of it...a garbage can and of course the flowers...Jason's Flowers. Lets see where I go from here.
